After leaving India's support staff, Ryan ten Doeschate takes huge role at all KKR franchises

India's outgoing assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, a key member of head coach Gautam Gambhir's support staff has rejoined the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Ten Doeschate has been appointed as their Head of Cricket Strategy. He won’t just be in charge of KKR but Knight Riders’ franchises across the globe.

“I'm excited to be back with the Knight Riders in this role. This is a unique opportunity to work with the coaching & analytics teams across our global franchises to strengthen our scouting/player development systems, and to build a long-term cricket strategy,” Ten Doeschate was quoted as saying in KKR’s media release on July 29.

Doeschate gets major role at TKR, ADKR and LAKR too

The former Netherlands all-rounder is in charge of their talent acquisition, scouting, squad planning and performance evaluation as well. He will be assistant coach of Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in ILT20 and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC).

TKR are four-time CPL winners. They are also the defending champions. ADKR are yet to win their maiden ILT20 title whereas LAKR won their first MLC title earlier this month.

Ten Doeschate’s record at KKR

Ten Doeschate had joined KKR in 2011 as a player. He was part of their title-winning squads in IPL 2012 and 2014 under the leadership of Gambhir. In 2022, he joined their coaching staff. In 2024, when KKR won their third title, he was part of their coaching staff before taking the role in Indian team.

As a part of the India coaching staff, he has seen India's triumphs in ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, T20 Asia Cup 2025 and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.

What will be Ten Doeschate’s next assignment?

Ten Doeschate won't have much time for vacation as TAKR begin their title defense on August 8 against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. Meanwhile, KKR would be looking to rebuild as well after failing to make it to playoffs for two consecutive seasons.
