Before the Chennai Super Kings' match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday, April 11, Ambati Rayudu expressed his excitement about MS Dhoni's comeback as captain. Due to a damaged elbow, Ruturaj Gaikwad will not be able to play the remainder of the season, hence Dhoni will take over as CSK's captain. Dhoni will be in charge for the remainder of the season after CSK coach Stephen Fleming made the announcement during a news conference on Thursday.

Rayudu on Dhoni

In an interview with ESPN Cricinfo, Rayudu initially expressed his sadness over Ruturaj's exclusion from the competition. The former CSK batsman stated that the Chennai supporters would be very pleased to see Dhoni back at the leadership. Rayudu believes Dhoni can work his magic and get CSK into the playoffs even from here. It will be a fantastic narrative, according to the former Indian cricket player.

"First of all, it's very sad that Ruturaj, the captain of CSK has been ruled out of the IPL. But all the fans will definitely will be extremely excited to see MS Dhoni lead CSK again. He can always pull out his magic and make CSK qualify from here. It will be one great story. So, I am very, very excited and I just hope that he weaves his magic all over the CSK team," said Rayudu.

Uthappa on Dhoni

Another former CSK player, Robin Uthappa, offered his thoughts on Dhoni returning to captaincy. Dhoni has remained in the background, according to Uthappa, so that Fleming and Ruturaj can develop their chemistry. According to Uthappa, the CSK team may undergo some changes in the coming days.

"He is going take control at the helm again. He stayed in the background completely and allowed Fleming and Ruturaj to kind of build their chemistry. Now he comes back to the fore. You will see a few changes I suspect in the next couple of days and the game against KKR," said Uthappa.

The IPL 2023 final was Dhoni's final match as captain of CSK. CSK has lost their last four games in a row and has only won once in five games.
