Australia superstar Cameron Green stole the limelight during the mini-auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by becoming the most expensive pick. Three-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spent INR 25.20 crore to get his services for the 19th edition of the cash-rich league during the auction in Abu Dhabi.

Green attracted heavy interest, with Chennai Super Kings and KKR locked in a fierce bidding battle. His last IPL outing came for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Going into the auction, KKR had the biggest purse at 64.30 crore, while CSK were next with 43.40 crore, giving both teams the room to push the price higher.

With this signing, Green became the third most expensive player in IPL auction history, behind Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. The deal also made him the costliest all-rounder and the most expensive overseas player ever bought in the league.

Venkatesh Iyer’s turn brought back memories from last season, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders once again went head-to-head for the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder. This time, RCB managed to win the battle and secured him for 7 crore.

Later in the auction, KKR added Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana to their squad, paying 18 crore to bring in the death overs specialist.

Chennai Super Kings also made headlines by spending big on uncapped players. Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma were both bought for 14.20 crore each, which was more than 47 times their base price. The two now hold the record for being the most expensive uncapped players in IPL auction history.

The mini auction features 369 players, with the ten teams needing to fill a total of 77 spots. Each franchise is allowed to have up to 25 players in its squad, including a maximum of eight overseas players.
