CSK might let loose Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to accomplish Sanju Samson trade with RR

Reportedly, CSK are chasing Sanju Samson deal

The hype around Sanju Samson trade saga is only growing day by day with Indian Premier League (IPL) retention date fast approaching. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly determined to strike the Sanju Samson trade deal with Rajasthan Royals (RR).  According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, CSK are likely to grab Samson deal, but it might see their two key players entering Royals territory.

CSK to let go Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran to grab Sanju Samson deal?

To secure Samson, CSK are reportedly prepared to part ways with two prominent all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. Both the Royals and the Super Kings have spoken to all three players involved in this potential trade. The same report suggests that both franchises have officially sent an expression of interest, naming these three players, to the IPL governing council to initiate the process. As per official trading rules, franchises can only proceed with final agreement discussions once the players' written consent has been received for the swap.

The trade is particularly poignant given the long-standing history of both Samson and Jadeja with their respective current teams. Samson has been a mainstay with the Rajasthan Royals for 11 seasons. Similarly, Jadeja has represented CSK since 2012, only missing the 2016 and 2017 seasons when the franchise was suspended. Interestingly, the Royals were the first franchise Jadeja represented in the IPL, back when he was just 19 years old.

Samson's decision and Jadeja's legacy

Notably Sanju Samson reportedly informed RR'management of his intention to seek a move following the conclusion of the IPL 2025 season. Regarding the other key player in the negotiations, Ravindra Jadeja remains a highly valued asset, having been retained by CSK ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction for a sum of ₹18 crore, second only to captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. The all-rounder has been central to the franchise's success, contributing to three of CSK's five title wins. He holds the distinction of having played 254 IPL matches in total, making him the fifth-most capped player in tournament history, behind only MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Dinesh Karthik. Although he briefly held the CSK captaincy in 2022 after Dhoni passed the baton, a difficult start to the season led to Dhoni reclaiming the leadership role shortly thereafter.

Sam Curran's Journey

The second player CSK is reportedly offering in the package is English all-rounder Sam Curran. Curran's IPL career began with the Punjab Kings in 2019, and four years later, he made history by becoming the league's most expensive player at an astonishing ₹18.50 crore. Despite having previous successful stints with CSK in 2020 and 2021, the franchise bought him back before the 2025 season for a more modest ₹2.40 crore. However, his performance in the most recent season was underwhelming, as he managed only 114 runs and took just one wicket in the five games he played.
