Urvil Patel wreaked havoc with the bat to script history during IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 10. Walking out at number three at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, the 27-year-old Gujarat batter unleashed a sensational power-hitting display. By smashing a single boundary and seven towering sixes, Patel reached his half-century in just 13 deliveries, equalling the record for the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Urvil Patel tonks join-fastest fifty in IPL
With this feat, Patel now shares the top spot with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who set the original benchmark during the 2023 season. Jaiswal had similarly reached the 50-run milestone in 13 balls while playing for the Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Patel's explosive innings not only stunned the Lucknow bowlers but also placed him in elite company as one of the most destructive strikers the league has ever seen.
Additionally, Patel has now become the fastest half-centurion in the history of the Chennai Super Kings franchise. He surpassed the long-standing club record previously held by Suresh Raina, who had reached a fifty in 16 balls against the Punjab Kings during the 2014 season at Wankhede Stadium. By shaving three balls off Raina’s iconic mark, Patel has set a new standard for excellence within the CSK batting lineup.
