GT will take on RR in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 clash on May 29

The winner of the Qualifier 2 clash will storm into IPL 2026 final

The highly anticipated IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is set to get underway at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh on May 29. With a coveted spot in the championship final at stake, both teams are expected to leave everything on the field in this high-stakes encounter.

What happens if GT vs RR IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 gets washed out?

Rajasthan Royals secured their place in this virtual semi-final after a thrilling victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Eliminator. RR's triumphant charge was powered by an extraordinary, explosive innings from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who smashed a stunning 97 runs off just 29 balls to carry his team forward.

The Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, missed out on a direct route to the final after suffering a heavy 92-run defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1. Thanks to the playoff format, GT earns a crucial second chance on Friday, where the winner will advance to face a formidable RCB squad in the IPL 2026 grand finale on May 31.

Because the IPL does not allocate a reserve day for any of its playoff fixtures, tournament officials must rely on specific contingency protocols if severe weather disrupts play. If rain wipes out the match entirely and prevents standard play, officials have the option to organize a standalone Super Over to determine which team advances.

However, if weather conditions are so severe that even a single-over shootout cannot be safely bowled, the rules dictate a straightforward resolution. In this worst-case scenario, the team that finished higher on the league-stage points table automatically moves through to the next round.

Looking closely at the final IPL 2026 league standings, the Gujarat Titans hold a distinct advantage under this rule. GT finished their regular season in second place, accumulating 18 points with a net run rate of +0.695, while the Rajasthan Royals concluded their campaign in fourth place with 16 points and a net run rate of +0.189.

The gap between the two sides in the standings is clear. Consequently, if Qualifier 2 is completely abandoned without a single ball bowled and conditions prevent a Super Over, the Gujarat Titans will automatically advance to the final to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 31.

Weather forecast for GT vs RR Qualifier 2 clash

In what will be welcome news for both teams, the weather forecast for Chandigarh looks completely clear for Wednesday evening. After a searing hot day, the temperature is expected to drop to around 33 degrees Celsius by the time the match gets underway, providing much more comfortable playing conditions for the cricketers on the field.

Additionally, players will not have to contend with heavy air, as the humidity is expected to remain very low at around 13 percent. Combined with a negligible 2 percent cloud cover, the teams can look forward to an uninterrupted, clear night of cricket without any threat of rain.
