MS Dhoni scored 26-ball 30 in CSK's losing cause against DC

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star opener Matthew Hayden didn't mince words about his old teammate MS Dhoni. Apparently, Hayden suggested it might be time for CSK superstar MS Dhoni to retire from IPL and start doing commentary. This chatter started after Dhoni had a tough time at the crease during CSK's 25-run defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their IPL 2025 clash.

It's over for MS Dhoni. He should join commentary box: Matthew Hayden

CSK were was chasing a target of 184, but Dhoni despite getting enough time on the crease couldn't pull it off for the five-time winners. He ended up with an unbeaten 30 runs off 26 balls, which included a six and a four. From his spot in the commentary box at Chepauk, Hayden reportedly didn't hold back. He reacted to Dhoni's sluggish innings by suggesting that the former Indian captain should call it quits and perhaps trade his bat for a microphone.

“(MS) Dhoni should join us in our commentary box after this game. He has lost the cricket. It's over for him. He should accept this fact until it's too late for CSK,” Hayden was quoted as saying by cricket.com on commentary.

Now, while all this talk is buzzing around, Sports Tak hasn't been able to confirm if Hayden actually said those exact words. So take it with a pinch of salt.

MS Dhoni's dismal outing in IPL 2025

Dhoni's bat hasn't fired in the ongoing IPL 2025 so far. Looking at his scores, he's had an unbeaten duck against the Mumbai Indians, followed by another not-out innings of 30 facing RCB, then a score of 16 against the Rajasthan Royals, and most recently, yet another unbeaten 30 against Delhi Capitals. There was also some chatter about his batting position in Chennai's first match against Bengaluru, where he came in at number 9. However, CSK's coach, Stephen Fleming, shed some light on that decision.

Meanwhile amidst all the criticism, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming made it clear that Dhoni isn't retiring anytime soon after the match. He said that the CSK stalwart is still going strong.

"No, that's not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him. He's still going strong. I don't even ask these days. You guys are the ones that ask (about retirement)," Fleming said in the post-match press conference.

CSK will next take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 8 at the the Mullanpur stadium.
