'Disappointing result, but...': LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka attempts to motivate players in dressing room after talking to Justin Langer, Rishabh Pant

IPL 2025: LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka said that it was a good game but a disappointing result. He hopes the team gets better when they face SRH on March 27.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were in comfortable position after sending half of the team back to the pavillion in the seventh over defending a total of 209. However, cameos from Tristan Stubbs and Vipraj Nigam followed by Ashutosh Sharma's late charge helped Delhi Capitals (DC) win by one wicket and three balls to spare. After the defeat, LSG franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen having a discussion with captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer. Later, Goenka tried to motivate players after a disappointing result. He hopes for a better result on March 27 when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

"Lots of positives that I take away from this game in batting, in bowling. The way he had the powerplay in both batting and bowling was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, let's look at the positives, look forward, from tomorrow, to the 27th. And hopefully, we'll have a better result. Disappointing result [tonight], yes. But, great game. So well done," Goenka said in a dressing room video posted by LSG.

Goenka posted twice on X as well after the defeat. He congratulated DC on the win.

"It was a hard-fought game, and there were certainly plenty of positives to take forward. Congratulations to @DelhiCapitals on the win," he wrote on X.

"@LucknowIPL, it was a good effort. This is just the beginning. There’s a lot to build on, and we’ll come back stronger," he added.

He also shared photo of him talking to Pant and Langer with a smile on his face.

"Intensity on the ground, camaraderie off it. Looking ahead to the next one," the 64-year-old wrote in the caption.

When LSG went to SRH last time

The last time LSG played SRH was on May 8, 2024. LSG posted a below par total of 165/4 on the board. They were blown away by SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. The hosts chased down the target of 166 in just 9.4 overs. As many as 14 sixes and 16 fours were hit in the run chase. Abhishek scored 75 off 28 balls whereas the Australian took just 30 balls to score 89 runs.

As LSG's net run rate (NRR) took a massive hit and eventually became the main reason why they could not make it to the playoffs for the first time, Goenka was livid with then captain KL Rahul. The video of Goenka's animated chat with Rahul went viral on social media. Before the mega auction, Rahul and LSG parted ways. Rahul was roped in by DC.
