Mitchell Starc's maiden IPL fifer came handy in DC's win over SRH

Mitchell Starc's maiden fifer in T20 cricket came handy for Delhi Capitals (DC) as they bulldozed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in their IPL 2025 clash in Vizag on March 30.

The superstar Australia pacer breathed fire with a magical spell of 5/35 his 3.4 overs. It took him 134 T20 innings to take his first ever fifer in the shortest format. Interestingly, Mitchell Starc's previous best bowling performance in the IPL was back in 2015 when he played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In a match against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, he recorded figures of 4 wickets for 15 runs in his four overs. He has also taken four-wicket hauls on two other occasions in T20 cricket: once for Australia against the West Indies in 2022 and another for his former IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), against the Mumbai Indians in 2024.

Mitchell Starc thrilled after guiding DC to emphatic win over SRH

SRH's hard-hitting batting line-up literally surrendered to Starc's stunning spell. Starc got the prized wickets of Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Wiaan Mulder, and Harshal Patel. Thanks to his brilliant bowling performance, Delhi Capitals managed to restrict the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a total of just 163 runs in 18.4 overs.

In reply, DC rode on Faf Du Plessis' blistering 27-ball 50 to chase down the total in just 16 overs to record their back-to-back wins in the ongoing IPL 2025.

Meanwhile, after the match Starc, who was adjudged the Player of the match, said that he doesn't thing there are too many egos in T20 cricket. He also stated that one needs to keep trying and do things one doesn't normally do against batters.

"Been a good day. All round, we were fantastic. I don't think there are too many egos in T20 cricket, you have to hang for dear life. You have to try and do things you don't normally do and find leeway against batters, nice it came off today. (On not bowling full to get Head) I've played for long enough, so I know what to do. Gotta think outside the box, even as an older player you have to bowl different balls. Glad that worked out. It's great to get into a new, young group and form new relationships with guys you haven't played with," Starc said at the post-match presentation.

After his fiery fifer Starc has now joined an elite list within the Delhi Capitals franchise. He becomes only the second DC bowler to ever take a five-wicket haul in an IPL match. The first was spinner Amit Mishra, who achieved figures of 5 wickets for 17 runs against the Deccan Chargers way back in 2008.

DC will now take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next IPL 2025 encounter on April 5 at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
