Gujarat Titans' (GT) batting trio of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler's half-centuries helped the franchise to register a 38-run dominating win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 51 match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this win against SRH, GT dethroned Royal Challengers Bengaluru to seal the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table.
Gill smashed 76 off 38 balls while Sudharsan chipped in with a breezy 23-ball 48 while forging an opening stand of 87 runs in just 6.5 overs, following which Buttler took GT past 200 with his 64 off 37 deliveries. GT managed to put 224/6 after 20 overs. SRH's Jaydev Unadkat (3/35) picked up three wickets in the 20th over that went for 12 runs.
After being asked to bat, skipper Gill got the innings underway for GT when he flicked a loose Mohammed Shami fourth delivery of the first over at deep square leg for a six.
After conceding 11 runs in the first over, Shami got smashed for five boundaries by Sudharsan. Skipper Pat Cummins came to bowl after Shami but the carnage continued as Gill launched into his opposite number, first greeting him with a cover drive and then playing an even better shot through the gap between mid-off and cover.
It was a bad start for Cummins as Gill smashed him for a maximum over deep mid-wicket to collect 17 from that over. GT scored 82 runs in the power play, following which spin was introduced in the form of Zeeshan Ali and the leg-spinner gave his team a much-needed breakthrough by having Sudharsan caught by keeper Heinrich Klaasen off a googly.
While chasing, SRH were off to a blazing start, but Rashid Khan got the breakthrough as he picked Travis Head's wicket on 20 runs, SRH were 49-1 after 4.3 overs. After Head's wicket, Ishan Kishan joined Abhishek Sharma for the chase, but IPL debutant Gerald Coetzee picked his wicket in the 10th over. He scored 13 runs. Abhishek was looking steady for the chase before Ishant Sharma picked his wicket in the 15th over. Abhishek (74) was the only batter for SRH who managed to score more than 50 runs.
Gujarat Titans will now face Mumbai Indians for their upcoming clash, which is scheduled to take place on May 6 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
