Gujarat Titans (GT) are reportedly set to sign former Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for Glenn Phillips, who has been sidelined due to injury in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). According to a report by Newswire, sources within Sri Lanka Cricket hinted that Dasun Shanaka is expected to travel to India in the near future to join the 2022 IPL champions.
Glenn Phillips, who unfortunately did not feature in any matches for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 season, returned to his home country on April 12 due to a groin injury and will not be rejoining the squad. He sustained this injury while fielding during a match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, further depleting the Gujarat Titans' overseas player options.
"Gujarat Titans all-rounder Glenn Phillips has returned to New Zealand following a groin injury he sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 6. “Gujarat Titans wish Glenn a speedy recovery,” Gujarat Titans' statement read.

Shanaka's recent cricketing engagements include his participation with the Dubai Capitals in the International League T20, where the team emerged victorious. Following his stint in the ILT20, the all-rounder returned to Sri Lanka and represented Dambulla in a match of the National Super League four-day tournament. He also featured for Sinhalese Sports Club in another match of the Major League Tournament, showcasing his continued involvement in domestic cricket.
Having previously been part of the Gujarat Titans set-up, Shanaka played three matches for the franchise during the 2023 IPL season, contributing 26 runs with the bat. Interestingly, he was not utilised as a bowler in any of those three games. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, Gujarat Titans had a successful campaign in IPL 2023, ultimately finishing as the runners-up in the tournament.
Talking about GT's performance in the ongoing IPL 2025, they are strongly placed at the second spot in the points table. In a total of six matches, GT have won four of them, collecting eight crucial points. GT will next face Delhi Capitals on April 19 at the Narendra Modi stadium.
