Former Australia cricketer Tom Moody believes that Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul isn't given the credit that he deserves following his incredible unbeaten knock of 112 runs against the Gujarat Titans on Monday, May 19 at the Arun Jaitley stadium.
KL Rahul scored an exceptional century against GT
Rahul played a key role in DC posting a massive total of 199/3 in 20 overs against GT. However, all his effors ended up going in vain as Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill's record-breaking partnership of 205 runs saw the Gujarat-based franchise cruise to the 200-run target and win comprehensively by 10 wickets.
"I always find the criticism around KL Rahul quite extraordinary. I think he's a lot better player than a lot of people give him credit for. And the way I look at this innings, I think it's an outstanding innings," Moody said on ESPNcricinfo's Time Out.
"And yeah, look, it'll depend on who wins the game as to whether he's, you know, the Player of the Match or not. But the way I look at this and I look at the batting card, what's let them down and not reaching that 220 is the other batters that were in only struck at 150. On a (batting-friendly) surface, you want impact," he added.
"When you've got someone in there that's anchoring, that's building the total, your role when you come in is to impact the game - 30 off ten balls, those types of innings, that suddenly take you to that 220. Instead of pointing the finger at the same person, I think it's the other way around," Moody further stated.
The 33-year-old took 60 deliveries to reach the three-digit mark and scored a total of 14 boundaries and four sixes in his fantastic knock. Rahul has maintained a brilliant strike-rate of 148.04 in the ongoing IPL season so far and has amassed 493 runs in 12 matches for DC.
Following the 10-wicket defeat to GT, the Delhi-based franchise now need to win their remaining two matches of the league stage in order to have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs.
They will be facing-off against the Mumbai Indians on May 21 before locking horns against Punjab Kings on May 23. DC currently stand on the fifth place on the IPL points table, having accumulated 13 points from 12 matches.
