BCCI decided to continue the Impact Player rule until 2027.

Impact Player rule in IPL was introduced in 2023.

IPL 2026 will start from March 28.

Most IPL captains have shared concerns about the Impact Player rule, which has been a talking point since its introduction in 2023. Even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to continue the rule until 2027, many players and fans are still divided on it. During the IPL captains' meeting held in Mumbai, leaders from all 10 teams discussed the rule in detail.

"Majority of the captains gave their inputs on the Impact Player rule and expressed their reservations even though the BCCI has extended the rule till 2027. They were told it can only be reviewed after the 2027 edition and not before that," an IPL source told Sports tak

Captains suggest ball change in first innings

Another topic that came up during the meeting was the condition of the ball, especially with the impact of dew in matches.

Last season, the BCCI allowed teams to change the ball after the 10th over of the second innings to deal with heavy dew. This time, one of the captains suggested allowing a ball change after the 10th over of the first innings as well.

"Ball change after 10 overs of first innings was proposed but it did not gain a lot of traction. There is heavy dew usually in the second innings and the current rule stands said the source."

Captains seek clarity on training rules

The captains also asked for better clarity on the training guidelines for the 2026 season. This year, all team captains are Indians, with Ishan Kishan leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in place of regular skipper Pat Cummins. As per the rules shared with teams, no practice sessions are allowed on match days. Also, if one team finishes training early, the other team cannot use the same pitch for practice.
