India's star player KL Rahul might have shut down all his critics with a 77-run knock in the second innings of the Perth Test against Australia but had to suffer a big pay cut during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The veteran player found his new Indian Premier League home in Delhi Capitals, who roped him in for 14 crores. However, despite being one of the biggest names in the auction, he had to take almost an 18 per cent loss in his fee from the previous year.
KL Rahul suffers loss
Rahul's fee for the 2024 edition of IPL was 17 crores. However, after being released by Lucknow Super Giants, he entered the auction pool, but despite making a lot of money, he had to suffer a loss of 3 crores.
KL Rahul is Delhi Capitals' second buy of the auction, they first spent 11.75 crores on Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who was till last year the most expensive player in IPL history after being part of Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping 24.75 crores.
Rahul's big remark
Prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction, KL Rahul opened up and stated that he was looking for a team where he could experience freedom and a lighter atmosphere.
"I wanted to start fresh, I wanted to explore my options and I wanted to go and play where I could find some freedom and the team atmosphere would be something lighter. Sometimes you just need to move away and find something good for yourself," said KL Rahul during an interview with Star Sports.
