Know playing XIs of both the teams

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) as Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the Ekana cricket stadium on April 1, Tuesday.

What did the captains say after toss?

After winning the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said:

"We are going to bowl first. It's a new ground, dew could be a factor as well and this being a red-soil pitch, we want to chase. The players have the freedom to express themselves. You have to play the situation, the important goal is to win. We try to keep things simple. We don't know how the pitch is going to play but we have to adjust quickly. Lockie comes into the team."

Meanwhile, LSG skipper Rishabh Pant, after losing the toss, said:

"We wanted to bowl first as well but happy to bat first. There are a lot of people who have come to support us, we are definitely going to give our best. No changes for us."

LSG's playing XI

Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant (capt & wk), Ayush Badoni, Digvesh Rathi, David Miller, Abdul Samad, Avesh Khan, Shardul Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi

Punjab Kings Impact Subs: Praveen Dubey, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Nehal Wadhera, Vishnu Vinod, Harpreet Brar

Pitch Report:

"A red-soil pitch is going to be used tonight. This is a high-scoring venue, but one thing that favours the bowlers is the dimensions. 70m to one side, 64m to the other, with a 77m hit straight down the ground. Red soil has a bit more pace and bounce, reckons Graeme Swann. This looks brilliant, he adds, with very even covering of grass, which has been cut short. He says it looks glorious for batting and he would not mind chasing, if he were the captain winning the toss because anything could be chased on this surface," Deep Dasgupta analysed the pitch.

LSG vs PBKS' head-to-head record

LSG and PBKS have locked horns with each other 4 times so far in IPL. Out of which LSG have won thrice while PBKS have notched just one victory.
