They can not use RTM on him either.

All ten of the teams have confirmed their retentions as the IPL 2025 mega auction draws near. The franchises attempted to put up their best show in an effort to create a team for the future, with six players permitted to be kept. The majority of the Mumbai Indians' core group from the 2024 season has been kept by the five-time champions. MI has kept youthful middle-order batsman Tilak Varma (8 crore), former captain Rohit Sharma (16.30 crore), India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav (16.35 crore), pace master Jasprit Bumrah (18 crore), and captain Hardik Pandya (16.35 crore).

One long-time member of the team has been let go, despite the fact that they kept their core group of Indian players. Ishan Kishan, a 26-year-old wicketkeeper batter, is scheduled to be up for sale because MI has not kept him. MI will not be able to exercise their remaining Right to Match card choice for Kishan.

MI can't use RTM on Ishan Kishan

Each franchise was permitted to keep up to six players, with a maximum of five capped Indians or Internationals and a maximum of two uncapped Indians, in accordance with the retention criteria that the IPL published before to the 2025 auctions. The Right to Match (RTM) card or direct retention are two ways a franchise can keep its players. MI has one remaining RTM, which they can use in the auction since they have kept five players. However, the MI franchise cannot use the RTM to keep another capped player because they have already kept a maximum of five capped players.

In addition to the well-known big four (Rohit, Hardik, Bumrah, and Suryakumar) at the international level, Tilak Varma has participated in 16 T20Is and four ODIs. Mumbai can only employ the RTM option for an uncapped player because all five retentions are capped.
