Meanwhile, GT's triumph has put Delhi Capitals' qualification chances in jeopardy as Axar Patel's brigade have 13 points in 12 matches. They not only need to win their remaining matches but also need to depend on favourable outcomes from other teams for the top four finish. The battle for the final playoff spot intensifies, with Mumbai Indians (14 points), Delhi Capitals (13 points), and Lucknow Super Giants (10 points) vying for the remaining position.
A crucial encounter is scheduled for May 21 when Mumbai Indians host Delhi Capitals. A victory for Mumbai Indians in this match would put them in a strong position to claim the fourth playoff spot, while a defeat for Delhi Capitals would result in their elimination from the tournament.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face a challenging path to qualification and must win their remaining three matches to reach a total of 16 points. For LSG to qualify, the following scenarios would need to unfold: LSG must defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to finish with 16 points. Additionally, Punjab Kings (PBKS) would need to defeat both Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) to finish on 14 points, and Delhi Capitals would need to defeat Mumbai Indians to finish on 15 points. Notably, if Mumbai Indians also reach 16 points, their significantly superior net run rate (+1.156) compared to Lucknow Super Giants (-0.469) would likely work against LSG's chances of qualification.
