Punjab Kings will have to extend their wait to secure a playoff berth after their match against Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off due to security concerns. A clear victory on May 8 would have made PBKS the first team to qualify for the next stage of the tournament. However, with the match being abandoned, both teams were awarded a single point each.
Punjab Kings were on track to post a substantial total after winning the toss and electing to bat first. Their opening batsmen, Priyanshi Arya and Prabhsimran Singh, forged an impressive 122-run partnership for the first wicket. Arya was eventually dismissed by T Natarajan for a well-played 70, but the match was subsequently called off due to the security situation.
In other IPL news from Wednesday, Kolkata Knight Riders experienced a significant setback in their playoff aspirations as they stumbled against Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens. CSK, who have had a difficult season, managed to secure only their third victory in 12 matches, dealing a blow to KKR's chances.
Meanwhile, the IPL 2025 points table remained unchanged following the abandoned match, with Punjab Kings holding onto their third position, and Delhi Capitals maintaining their fifth spot in the standings.
