There is now finally some clarity on how long he is expected to remain unavailable for selection.

After Lungi Ngidi suffered a nasty head injury during DC’s previous clash against PBKS—where he hit his head while attempting a catch—there was uncertainty surrounding his availability and the timeline for his return.

The South African pacer has been ruled out of today’s game against RCB, and there is now finally some clarity on how long he is expected to remain unavailable for selection.

Clarity on Lungi Ngidi's availability

Cricbuzz has confirmed that the 30-year-old pacer is set to miss at least the next two games, which include today's RCB game and the upcoming one against Rajasthan Royals on Friday, May 1.

While Ngidi is unavailable for two games, Delhi has brought in the experienced 34-year-old Sri Lankan bowler Dushmantha Chameera, who has been named as a like-for-like replacement of the South African.

What happened during the PBKS game

When DC came to defend a mammoth 265 that they put with the help of KL Rahul's heroics of 152 not out, making him the number one Indian batter in IPL in terms of the highest individual score. It was also DC's highest total, but PBKS who have been on an unbeaten run so far in IPL 2026, made things look easy, chasing down the total with one over to spare.

It was during this chase that Ngidi sustained the injury while attempting Priyansh Arya's catch and had to be rushed to the hospital immediately in an ambulance that was brought to the ground in one of the rare moments in cricket. Later, it was learned he was doing fine and is still recovering and is set to miss at least two games now, as mentioned earlier.
