With this win KKR surged to 8th spot in the points table

In a nail-biting IPL 2026 encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a thrilling win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Super Over thriller at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium on April 27.

KKR thrash LSG in Super Over drama

The match went into a Super Over after Mohammed Shami tonked a six off the last ball to level the score while chasing a target of 156-run target. Sunil Narine was then handed the task to bowl the Super Over and the spin maestro conceded just one run and took two wickets to wrap up LSG's shot. In reply, Rinku did the rest and cracked a first-ball four off Prince Yadav to seal the deal for KKR.

Sunil Narine's miraculous show in Super Over

While KKR nearly defended their target of 155 in regulation time, they held their nerve under immense pressure to clinch the victory when it mattered most.

The foundation for this result was laid by Rinku Singh’s remarkable resilience. With KKR reeling at 93/seven after 16 overs, Rinku played a masterclass innings, scoring an unbeaten 83 off just 51 balls. His decision to target the final over for 26 runs proved to be the pivotal moment of the match, allowing the visitors to post a defendable total of 155 that kept them firmly in the contest.

In response, the KKR bowling attack operated with great discipline, led by Varun Chakaravarthy and Vaibhav Arora, who each claimed two wickets to stifle the Lucknow lineup. Despite solid efforts from Rishabh Pant, who contributed 42 off 38 balls, and Aiden Markram, who added 31, the Super Giants found themselves unable to cross the finish line comfortably. The match nearly slipped away in the final regulation over when Kartik Tyagi, tasked with defending 17 runs, conceded two no-balls that handed Lucknow a lifeline and forced the game into the decisive Super Over.

The game was ultimately settled in the Super Over, where Narine produced a clinical performance. He dismissed both Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram within the first three balls, effectively dismantling the LSG challenge before it could gain momentum. With the pressure lifted, Rinku Singh returned to the crease and decisively struck the first ball for four, sealing a hard-fought result for the KKR.

Rinku Singh's heroics in KKR's win

Earlier, KKR managed to post 155/7, thanks to a heroic, unbeaten 83 off 51 balls from Rinku Singh. This competitive total was a remarkable turnaround, as KKR had initially found themselves in deep trouble after LSG captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl. His decision proved inspired as the LSG bowlers immediately tore through the KKR lineup.

Mohsin Khan spearheaded the LSG attack with a devastating, career-best performance of 5/23. He dismantled the KKR batting core with ruthless efficiency, removing Tim Seifert for a duck in the second over and following up with the dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and the aggressive Cameron Green. By the time Mohsin accounted for Rovman Powell and Anukul Roy, KKR were reeling at 73/6 after just 11 overs. The collapse continued, and by the 15th over, the visitors were staring at a catastrophic total of 93/7, looking unlikely to even cross the 100-run mark.

With wickets falling at regular intervals, Rinku Singh took on the responsibility of stabilizing the innings. While the situation appeared dire, he remained composed, meticulously rebuilding the total alongside the lower-order batters. As the match entered the final stretch, KKR were at 112/7 after 18 overs, with Rinku sitting on a steady 43 off 40 balls.

However, Rinku saved his most explosive hitting for the final two overs, completely shifting the momentum of the game. He first targeted Mohammed Shami in the penultimate over, taking 17 runs to give the innings a much-needed lift. He then unleashed carnage against spinner Digvesh Rathi in the final over, slamming four consecutive sixes to plunder 26 runs. This late surge propelled KKR to 155/7, with Rinku walking off unbeaten on 83, his masterful knock decorated with seven fours and five sixes.

With this win KKR jumped to eighth from tenth position in the IPL 2026 points table and left LSG reeling at the bottom of the standings.

KKR will next face SRH on May 3 while deflated LSG will lock horns with MI on May 4.
