Sunrisers Hyderabad's (SRH) star batters Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head's explosive hitting was once again on full display in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head delivered a masterclass in aggressive opening, dismantling the opposition's bowling attack from the very first ball.

SRH post third-highest powerplay score in IPL history

The duo's relentless assault saw them target every corner of the ground, sparing no bowler in their pursuit of a dominant start. By the end of the first six overs, SRH had posted a staggering 105/0, marking the highest powerplay total of the current season. This explosive performance also saw them equal a historic milestone, tying with Kolkata Knight Riders' 2017 record against RCB for the joint-third highest powerplay score in tournament history.

Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head run riot

Abhishek was the primary aggressor in this record-breaking feat, bludgeoning 66 runs from a mere 22 deliveries. Playing with a monumental strike rate of 300, his innings was highlighted by five boundaries and seven towering sixes. Travis Head proved to be the perfect partner at the other end, contributing a brisk 31 runs off 15 balls, ensuring the momentum never dipped during their partnership.

SRH now firmly dominate the record books for powerplay scoring, holding three of the top five spots on the all-time list. Their ultra-aggressive philosophy has allowed them to surpass the 100-run mark in the powerplay on three separate occasions, cementing their status as the most dangerous top-order unit in the league.
