In a surprising turn of events, star Sri Lankan fast-bowler Nuwan Thushara has apologised to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after taking them to court for denying him a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to take part in IPL 2026.

According to the Sri Lanka cricket sources, Thushara has asked for forgiveness through an e-mail to SLC, explaining that it was not his intention to cause trouble to the governing body.

He was looking for fairness and justice, as he believed he was being treated with unfairness.

Thushara's backdown came after Sri Lanka Cricket informed the District Court in Colombo that it would oppose Thusara's plea seeking clearance to take part in the ongoing IPL 2026.

The 31-year-old fast bowler had approached the court seeking a directive for Sri Lanka Cricket to issue him an NOC after the board dismissed his request because he failed the mandatory fitness tests. 

The court allowed the SLC plea and the next hearing was supposed to take place on April 23. In the IPL 2026, Thusara was supposed to play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, having been retained for Rs 1.60 crore

Thushara's T20 records

For Sri Lanka, Nuwan Thushara has played a over 30 matches and established himself as a reliable wicket-taking option, picking up 36 wickets at an average of 22.64 and an economy rate of 8.16. His best bowling figures of 5/20 came against Bangladesh in 2024.

Thushara made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Rajasthan Royals in 2024, before moving to RCB in 2025. In eight IPL games, the Sri Lankan pacer has bagged nine wickets at ab economy rate of 9.43 and an average of 31.44.
