IPL 2026: After Wanindu Hasaranga's injury setback, Lucknow Super Giants likely to sign this South-Africa's George Linde

Lucknow Super Giants suffered a massive blow as Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL 2026 season because of a persistent hamstring injury. As per the recent developments, the Rishabh-Pant led side have identified a South African all-rounder for the Star Sri Lanka spinner's potential replacement.

LSG to sign South-African all-rounder as Hasaranga's replacement

Hasaranga was expected to be a key player in LSG's current squad but the injury has left a huge void in the setup. Reportedly, South Africa's all-rounder George Linde is being considered as a replacement for the star spinner.

During LSG's clash against KKR on Thursday, Tom Moody revealed that the Hasaranga won't be able to join and the team is looking for a replacement option which could be announced in the next 24-48 hours.

"We are preparing for the fact that he isn't going to be able to join us," said Moody.

“We are looking at replacements that should be announced in 24-48 hours,” added Moody.

Hasaranga has been on the sidelines since February, sustaining a significant tear to his left hamstring during Sri Lanka's opening game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Earlier this week, reports suggested that the star spinner had not undergone the mandatory fitness test required by Sri Lanka Cricket. These tests are for any player looking for a No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is necessary for joining an overseas franchise.

Hasaranga's record in IPL

Wanindu Hasaranga made his IPL debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2021. His standout season came in 2022 where he bagged 26 wickets in just 16 games. Hasaranga was released by RCB after the 2023 season before being signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2024, but missed the campaign because of an injury.

In 2025, Hasaranga was acquired by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5.25 crore, picking up 11 wickets in 11 outings. He was released by RR ahead of the 2026 season, after which LSG secured him for Rs 2 crore in the auction.
