Delhi Capitals emerged victorious in a nerve-wracking Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) which was decided following a Super Over drama. DC successfully chased down a target of 12 runs in the Super Over after a tense encounter where Rajasthan Royals managed to tie the match while pursuing Delhi Capitals' total of 188 runs.
In the Super Over, Rajasthan Royals could only score 11 runs, thanks to exceptional bowling performance by Mitchell Starc and instances of miscommunication between their batsmen, which resulted in two crucial run-outs. Tristan Stubbs and KL Rahul then opened the batting for Delhi Capitals and efficiently chased down the target in just four deliveries.
Earlier in the match, after Delhi Capitals posted a total of 188, Rajasthan Royals were tasked with the tough chase. Half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana played a instrumental role in bringing RR close to the target. However, disciplined bowling and timely wickets from Delhi Capitals helped them pull the game back and ultimately force a Super Over. Skipper Axar Patel was particularly impressive with the ball during the chase, taking a wicket while conceding only 23 runs in his three overs.
Sanju Samson rues RR's painful defeat against DC
Meanwhile, RR captain Sanju Samson, who scored 19-ball 31, was left heartbroken after his team's painful defeat. While ruing RR's loss, Samson said that a win could have created some positivity in the dressing room.
"A win today could have created some positivity in the dressing room," Samson said in the post-match presentation.
"It feels alright (His injury). I wasn't just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is. We bowled really well. There were phases when they came hard at us. I would like to give credit to our bowlers and fielders. The energy on the ground was fantastic. I thought that score was chaseable given the batting line up which we had. The start which we got in the PP. I felt it was definitely a chaseable score. I think as we all saw some fantastic bowling by Starcy. He is one of the best guys around in the world. I would like to give it to Starcy. He won them the game in the 20th over. Plan was to swing hard. I think (Sandeep) has been bowling the toughest overs for us in the last few years. Starcy took it away," he added.
DC will next face Gujarat Titans on April 19 while RR will lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants on the same date.
