Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered third defeat in a row in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 following their 25-run loss against high-flying Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 5, Saturday.

Notably, it was DC's first win at Chepauk in a staggering 5468 days, a drought of 14 years, 11 months, and 20 days, with their last victory against CSK in Chennai dating back to 2010.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first Delhi Capitals saw KL Rahul opening the innings due to Faf du Plessis' absence. Rahul anchored the innings with a well-crafted 77 off 51 balls. He was ably supported by Abishek Porel (33), Axar Patel (21), Sameer Rizvi (20), and Tristan Stubbs (24*), whose useful cameos helped DC reach a competitive total of 183/6.

Chasing the target, Chennai Super Kings struggled to build momentum throughout their innings. Delhi Capitals' bowlers kept the pressure on, and CSK found themselves in deep trouble, losing five wickets with only 74 runs on the scoreboard. It was all upto Vijay Shankar and MS Dhoni then who joined hands for a slow but steady 84-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Vijay remained unbeaten on 69 off 54 balls, while MS Dhoni could only muster 30 not out from 26 deliveries but ran out of steam in the end and hence failed to get CSK past the finishing line.

DC have now won all three of their matches in IPL 2025 and have climbed to the top of the points table. On the other hand, CSK's disastrous campaign continued, having now lost their last three matches after starting the season with a win against the Mumbai Indians (MI).

Meanwhile, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was left heartbroken after his team's 25-run defeat against DC. Ruturaj Gaikwad said that his team is trying to improve but it's not going their way in the IPL 2025.

"Since the last few games it's not going our way. We are trying to improve, trying our best but not going our way. Definitely lost too many wickets. (Powerplay) It's a major concern even in the bowling department. We are giving way 15-20 runs extra or losing too many wickets. We are trying but it's just not happening. (On the team's woes) I just think that we are slightly over concerned or tentative whoever is bowling in powerplay. And with the bat obviously you don't want to lose an extra wicket but it's just about being positive. I think it's about being on the back foot and not being on the toes. Everyone needs to come together to make things happen. We need to make things happen. (About lack of intent today) Since powerplay we were always playing the catch up game. We were too far behind and we only had one batter left. DC bowled really well and used the conditions really well. Even when Shivam (Dube) was batting we were looking for momentum but it just didn't happen," Gaikwad said in the post-match presentation.

CSK will next face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their own fort, Chepauk stadium, on April 8 while DC will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on April 10.
