In a big boost to Delhi Capitals, their recently announced replacement player Mustafizur Rahman has been granted an NOC by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to participate in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This development follows an earlier disruption to the IPL 2025 schedule, which led to several international cricketers opting not to return to India. Among those who chose not to come back was Jake Fraser-McGurk.
BCB grants NOC to Mustafizur Rahman for remainder of IPL 2025
Addressing the Fraser-McGurk's unavailability, DC announced Mustafizur Rahman as his replacement. The finalists from the 2020 edition secured the services of the Bangladeshi left-arm pacer for Rs 6 crore. However, this signing was immediately followed by a contentious situation. Mustafizur Rahman had already joined the Bangladesh national team in the UAE for international duties and, at the time, did not possess the necessary NOC to feature in the IPL. Notably, Bangladesh is scheduled to play a two-match T20I series against UAE on May 17 and May 19. Following which they are slated to tour Pakistan for a five-match T20I series, starting from May 25
However, Sports Tak has learnt that Mustafizur Rahman has now been granted the crucial NOC by the BCB. The star pacer has been granted NOC from May 18 to 24. The sources privy to the development has also hinted that if necessary BCB might reschedule the T20I series against Pakistan.
DC have three remaining league matches scheduled for May 18 (against Gujarat Titans), May 21 (against Mumbai Indians), and May 24 (against Punjab Kings). Their progression to the playoff stage will depend on their performance in these final fixtures. In case the Bangladesh's series against Pakistan gets rescheduled and DC end up making it to the IPL 2025 playoffs which is slated to start from May 29, Mustafizur's NOC might get extended.
Mustafizur is no stranger to DC, having previously played for the franchise in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. During the 2022 edition, the left-arm seamer featured in eight matches, securing eight wickets while maintaining an economical bowling rate of 7.62 runs per over. He also played two games for the Delhi-based franchise in the subsequent 2023 season.
Across his IPL career, which commenced in 2016, the 29-year-old has participated in a total of 38 matches. In these appearances, he has taken 38 wickets, demonstrating a consistent economy rate of 7.84. Having represented various franchises in the league, Mustafizur has gained a reputation for his ability to bowl effectively at different stages of a T20 innings.
On the international stage, Mustafizur has cemented his position as a premier left-arm fast bowler in white-ball cricket, having claimed an impressive 132 wickets in 106 T20 International matches for Bangladesh. His overall T20 record is equally noteworthy, with 351 wickets taken in 281 matches across domestic and international competitions.
