Punjab Kings (PBKS) are going through a wonderful campaign in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, remaining unbeaten after six matches and yet to lose a game so far. Shreyas Iyer is getting praise from both fans and experts because of his unmatched leadership acumen.
Shreyas Iyer's success mantra at PBKS in IPL 2026
Recently, Marco Jansen, star speedster of Punjab Kings, shed light on Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, mentioning how effectively he gives players the freedom to execute themselves during matches saying 'it doesn’t feel like a dictatorship'.
“Shreyas, as a captain, is definitely up there, if not on top. He’s a pleasure to work with. He knows what he’s doing. He knows what he wants from the players. He motivates and drives us to play our best. It gives us the space to do what we do well, if that makes sense. It’s not a case of it’s his way or the highway type of thing, which I think is a very nice feeling as a bowler and a player," said Jansen.
While continuing, Jansen revealed that Iyer is too strong mentally as it is very evident in his personality during team meetings or practices.
"He knows what he wants. He knows what he wants to achieve. He’s very goal-driven. He’s very headstrong. It’s very easy to see when we are in meetings and stuff like that, and in training. He’s very driven. I think from a team’s point of view, it’s nice to have a captain like that. So it’s like you sort of just follow his lead," added Jansen.
The upward spike in Shreyas Iyer's batting
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has also worked a lot in his batting since joining Punjab Kings amassing over 600 runs at an average of 50.33 and an amazing strike rate of 175.07 across 17 outings in the 2025 season. The story seems to be the same in the ongoing season too, with scoring 208 runs in six games for the Punjab-based franchise at an average of 52 and a strike rate of 182.46.
