Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has dealt with a massive setback as their star batter Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out of the rest of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injury. However, RCB have announced the signing of Mayank Agarwal as a replacement for the injured Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of IPL 2025. This development came ahead of RCB's IPL 2025 clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) which is scheduled to be played on May 9 at the Ekana Cricket stadium.

Devdutt Padikkal ruled out of IPL 2025, Mayank Agarwal announced replacement

The 24-year-old batter, who featured in 10 matches for RCB this season and contributed 247 runs, including two half-centuries, has been sidelined due to a right hamstring injury.

Mayank Agarwal brings a wealth of IPL experience to the RCB squad, having played 127 matches in the league so far. He has accumulated 2661 runs in his IPL career, which includes one century and 13 half-centuries.

RCB has secured the services of Mayank Agarwal for a sum of Rs. 1 crore as they look to bolster their squad for the remainder of the IPL 2025 tournament.

"Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.Devdutt Padikkal, who played 10 matches for RCB this season and scored 247 runs with the help of two half-centuries, sustained an injury to his right hamstring.Mayank Agarwal has played 127 IPL matches so far, scoring 2661 runs. He has 1 IPL hundred and 13 fifties against his name.He joins RCB for INR 1 Crore," IPL's statement read.

Devdutt Padikkal, who had previously delivered performances below expectations in past IPL seasons, found his mojo back while batting at the No. 3 position for RCB. In the 10 matches he played, Padikkal scored a total of 247 runs at an impressive strike rate of 150.61, which marks his best strike rate in any IPL campaign to date. Before a hamstring injury prematurely ended his season, he also registered two half-centuries.

Talking about Mayank Agarwal, the 34-year-old have participated in 127 matches throughout his career. His IPL record includes one century and 13 half-centuries. Agarwal's IPL journey began with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and since then, he has represented several different franchises. Most recently, he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024, where he had a relatively quiet season, scoring only 64 runs in his four appearances for the team.
