Punjab Kings' (PBKS) designated uncapped finisher Shashank Singh believes if Prithvi Shaw can make a few changes, it will best for Indian cricket. Shashank was asked who would he pick as India's next great openers. He picked Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shaw as contenders for the job. Shashank revealed that he knows Shaw since the latter was 13 years old.
"Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he goes back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I know him since he was 13, since I've played club cricket with him in Bombay [Mumbai]. If you ask me what's wrong with him, he has a different perspective on few things," Shashank said, speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast.
"Maybe, he can change something about his work ethic, maybe sleep at 10 PM instead of 11 PM, maybe improve his diet.
"If he can accept and change some of these things, it would be the best thing for Indian cricket."
Shaw was released by Delhi Capitals (DC). He did not find any takers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction and went unsold despite having a base price of Rs 75 lakh.
While Shashank had a piece of advice for Shaw, he feels that the 25-year-old must have others who are already giving him advice.
"Maybe he already is (making the changes). He does not need me to advise him. He probably already has 10 better people giving him advice," he added.
In the recently concluded DY Patil T20 2025 tournament, Shaw was leading Route Mobile. He scored 168 runs from three innings averaging 56. His strike rate was 182.61.
Shashank's best season yet
Shashank was one of the two players retained by PBKS franchise. He was retained for Rs 5.5 crore. After the goof-up in the mini auction, Shashank turned out to be his team's highest run-scorer in the season. He scored 354 runs from 14 innings at an average of 44.25, including two fifties. His strike rate was 164.65.
Shashank will be seen in action when PBKS go up against Gill's Gujarat Titans on March 25 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
