After enduring a difficult three-week period marked by a five-match losing streak, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have finally secured their first victory of the IPL 2026 season. This breakthrough triumph was largely orchestrated by Rinku Singh, whose pivotal contribution proved to be the difference-maker for the team.

The match at Eden Gardens was played on a tricky surface that proved difficult for free scoring. In this high-pressure environment, Rinku demonstrated exceptional maturity by reading the match situation rather than getting caught up in the magnitude of the occasion. As the team's top order faltered early during the pursuit of a modest 156-run target, Rinku resisted the urge to rush the game. Instead, he carefully constructed his innings, balancing patience with calculated aggression. While his performance was not entirely flawless. With KKR struggling at 73/5 in the 11th over, Nandre Burger missed a catch while Rinku was on just eight runs. Seizing the opportunity, Rinku ensured the Rajasthan Royals paid a heavy price for the error. He carefully navigated the remainder of the chase, forming an unbeaten 76-run partnership with Anukul that successfully steered the Kolkata Knight Riders to victory with two balls to spare.

After the match, Rinku was asked about that shot which jeopardized his wicket, to which he replied:

"That’s what happens sometimes, sir. In that moment, the mind doesn’t work properly and you end up playing such shots. But thankfully, luck was on my side and we eventually won the match. Yes sir, that was in my mind as well. I had played quite a few innings and was waiting for a big one."

This performance came at the right time for Rinku, who had been struggling for rhythm heading into the game. He had managed only 79 runs across his previous five innings. Delivering such a clutch knock under intense pressure not only secured the much-needed win for his team but also marked a timely and vital return to form for the batter.

“When runs don’t come, you start thinking. It was not that I was hesitating in hitting my shots. The mindset was to take it till the end. You play those shots [when he was dropped off a no-look slog] when your mind isn’t working. God helped me. It was a very good innings for my confidence. The win will give us a lot of confidence. We’ll look to carry this momentum forward,” he added.

KKR will now lock horns with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 26.
