Is MS Dhoni's IPL 2025 season the last one? When the Indian icon showed up in Chennai a month ago wearing a T-shirt that read "One Last Time" in Morse code, he undoubtedly gave away the clue. Fans went into a social media frenzy about it. The 43-year-old, however, spoke out against the retirement rumours ahead of Sunday's home opener between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians, stating that neither he nor the team is prepared to bid each other farewell anytime soon.

Before the big match at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni told Jio Hotstar that he could play for Chennai for as long as he wanted. He also said that CSK would still persuade him to play another season even if he gets hurt and ends up in a wheelchair.

"I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That's my franchise. Even if I'm in a wheelchair, they'll drag me," he said.

During the 2023 IPL season, Dhoni fought a knee injury and had surgery at the end of the season. After taking the rest of the year off to recuperate, he returned for the 17th IPL season, giving up his position as captain. Throughout the season, Dhoni, who preferred to be at No. 8 or lower in the lineup, amassed 161 runs in 73 balls with a strike rate of 220.

Dhoni will have an opportunity to make IPL history in Chennai's first match of the season. The 43-year-old is just 19 runs away from becoming the IPL team's top run scorer. With 4687 runs, former franchise legend Suresh Raina is at the top. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is currently eight wickets away from becoming CSK's top IPL wicket-taker. Only Dwayne Bravo's 140 wickets for the five-time champs surpass Jadeja's total.
