Highlights:

Washington Sundar played just two games in last IPL season.

Sundar is yet to score his maiden IPL half-century.

Sundar made his IPL debut in 2017.

Ahead of Day 2 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Washington Sundar was expected to start bidding wars. Several franchises were expected to bid for him but it turned out to be the opposite. After a brief silence in the auction hall, Gujarat Titans (GT) placed the opening bid for him. They ended up acquiring his services for a low sum of Rs 3.2 crore.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) gave up the hunt for the spin all-rounder way too early. GT were elated to get Sundar who has been splendid form in international cricket of late.

Sundar's numbers at SRH

Sundar played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the last three seasons and bagged 10 wickets from 18 games. Also, he has just 161 runs from 14 innings for the franchise.

Why franchises did not go big for Sundar?

Sundar's struggle with injuries may have been the reason behind teams not bidding for him aggressively. Made his IPL debut in 2017, the Tamil Nadu-born all-rounder has 37 wickets from 60 games. With the bat, he averages just 13.50. He has scored 378 runs from 40 innings and yet to score his maiden IPL century. His strike rate is not impressive either at 116.30.
