'Not received any communication...': BCCI ends silence on Mustafizur Rahman's participation in IPL 2026

In light of the recent outrage that has sparked over the participation of Bangladeshi players in  IPL, the BCCI have given an update on if they will be allowed to play in the tournament or not. Mustafizur Rahman was the only player from Bangladesh to be signed in the IPL 2026 auction. He was roped in by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a massive fee of INR 9.2 crore.

Decision yet to be taken

A report by IANS quoted a BCCI source as claiming that they are yet to receive any commnunication from the government on whether Bangladesh players will be allowed to participate in IPL 2026 or not.

“Let’s not get into this. It is not in our hands. We have not received any communication from the government directing us to prevent Bangladesh players from participating in the IPL… Can’t comment much as of now," a BCCI source told IANS.

Mustafizur became the most expensive Bangladesh player in history after KKR splurged the cash on him during the auction. However, has signing has led to a lot of backlash against the IPL franchise amid reports of violent incidents against religious minorities in Bangladesh. This has led many to question whether Mustafizur will be allowed to participate in the upcoming  season of IPL or not.

Mustafizur's IPL career

Mustafizur has so far played a total of 60 games in his IPL career. He has featured for five different franchises and KKR will be his sixth team in the tournament. The 30-year-old has racked up 65 wickets in the league and previously won the title with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) back in IPL 2026. He is undoubtedly the most successful Bangladeshi player to ever feature in the league.

Meanwhile, IPL 2026 will reportedly be beginning from March 26. It will be a 2-month long tournament and will go on till May 31.
