PBKS vs LSG Today Match Results: Punjab Kings recorded an emphatic 37-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2025 clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala on May 4.
PBKS crush LSG by 37 runs
Prabhsimran Singh's blistering 48-ball 91 steered PBKS to a colossal total of 236/5. In reply, LSG batters faltered in the chase and were restricted to 199/7 despite Ayush Badoni's fighting 40-ball 74, thanks to Arshdeep Singh's fiery three-fer.
With this win PBKS surged to second in the IPL 2025 points table with 15 points in 11 matches. Meanwhile, LSG remained stagnant in the standings at seventh position with just 10 points in 11 encounters.
PBKS will next take on Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 8 at the HPCA stadium while LSG will lock horns Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 9 in Lucknow.
Ayush Badoni's fighting knock in vain
While chasing an imposing target, Lucknow Super Giants endured a disastrous start, losing both their opening batsmen cheaply. Arshdeep Singh struck twice in quick succession in the third over, dismissing Mitchell Marsh for a duck and Aiden Markram for just 13 runs within a span of four deliveries. The woes continued for LSG as Nicholas Pooran also failed to make an impact, falling victim to Arshdeep Singh for a meager 6 runs, leaving them reeling at a precarious 27 for three. The slide continued as skipper Rishabh Pant could only manage 18 runs before being dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai. The same bowler then accounted for David Miller, who scored 11, further compounding Lucknow's troubles and reducing them to a precarious 73 for five.
A resilient partnership then blossomed between Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni, who added a crucial 81 runs for the sixth wicket, offering a glimmer of hope for the Lucknow Super Giants. However, just as they seemed to be gaining momentum, Abdul Samad fell to the bowling of Marco Jansen for a well-fought 45. Ayush Badoni, who proved to be Lucknow's most effective batsman of the night, continued his lone battle, eventually reaching a valiant 74. Despite his efforts, he too succumbed in the final over to Chahal. In the end, the Lucknow Super Giants could only muster 199 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs, falling short of the target by 37 runs.
Prabhsimran Singh 91 helps PBKS post humongous total
Earlier, riding on impactful contributions from their batting lineup, PBKS posted a colossal total of 236/5 against LSG. Conversely, the visiting Lucknow team had an uncharacteristic day on the field, marred by dropped catches and the concession of extra runs.
Despite an early breakthrough when Akash Singh dismissed Priyansh Arya in the very first over, raising hopes of dominance for Lucknow, a strategic move by Shreyas Iyer shifted the momentum. The bold decision to send Josh Inglis to bat at number three paid dividends as the Australian batsman blazed his way to 30 runs off just 14 deliveries, including four towering sixes and one boundary, striking at an impressive rate of 214.28.
Following Inglis's aggressive start, Shreyas Iyer capitalised on the platform created. Stepping out to the middle, the right-handed batsman played a fluent innings of 45 runs off 25 balls, punctuated by four boundaries and two sixes.
However, the innings that truly made the difference for Punjab Kings came from the bat of Prabhsimran Singh. He anchored the innings with a brilliant 91 runs off just 48 deliveries, showcasing a fine blend of power and finesse with seven sixes and six boundaries. Adding crucial late-order impetus, Nehal Wadhera contributed a quickfire 16 runs off nine balls, including two fours and a six. The designated finisher, Shashank Singh, lived up to his role, smashing 33 runs off a mere 15 deliveries, comprising four boundaries and one six. Akash Singh was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, picking up two wickets while conceding 30 runs in his four-over spell.
