In a mere four matches, the wonderkid Vaibhav Suryavanshi tasted both the highs and lows of cricket. Cricket, often described as a great leveler, presented a quick lesson in its unpredictable nature to Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was dismissed for a two-ball duck in his subsequent match against Mumbai Indians (MI). This came shortly after Vaibhav had etched his name in the record books, becoming the youngest T20 centurion with a breathtaking 35-ball hundred against Gujarat Titans (GT) few days back.
At just 14 years of age, Vaibhav possesses raw talent and has a significant journey of learning and improvement ahead. However, he has already exhibited the potential to become a valuable asset for Indian cricket. Even in his debut match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he made a notable impression with a quickfire 34 runs, including a six off Shardul Thakur on his very first ball in the IPL.
Following Vaibhav's dismissal by Deepak Chahar, Rohit Sharma displayed a commendable gesture of sportsmanship by patting the young batter on the back, offering encouragement. This act served as a gentle reminder to Vaibhav that successes and failures are transient in the game of cricket, and dwelling excessively on setbacks is unproductive. During the customary post-match handshake, Rohit Sharma again offered words of motivation to the promising youngster.
Meanwhile, MI's winning streak continued on May 1 with a comprehensive 100-run victory over RR. This was Hardik Pandya-led side's sixth win in a row of the season which spurred him further closer to the playoff berth. Talking about the match, after posting a formidable total of 217 runs for the loss of two wickets riding on Ryan Rickelton (61), Rohit Sharma (53), and unbeaten scores of 48 each from Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav, MI's bowling attack proved equally dominant. They dismantled RR batting lineup, bowling them out for a mere 117 runs and clinching a resounding 100-run victory. Trent Boult and Karn Sharma were the standout bowlers, each claiming three wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah contributed with two wickets in MI's emphatic win over RR.
With this latest win, their seventh in eleven games, MI rocketed to top of the IPL 2025 points table. On the other hand, RR suffered their eighth defeat in eleven matches. This loss officially marked their elimination from the playoff contention, making them the second team to be knocked out of the race after the Chennai Super Kings.
MI will next lock horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 6 at the Wankhede stadium while RR will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 4 at the Eden Gardens.
