Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan became the first opening pair in IPL history to register seven 100-plus partnerships together.

CSK were officially knocked out of IPL 2026 after suffering a crushing defeat against GT.

Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan continued their sensational form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by registering yet another massive opening partnership during the clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The duo once again dominated opposition bowlers and etched their names into the IPL record books with another century stand.

Gill-Sudarshan break major IPL record

Gill and Sudharsan stitched together a brilliant 125-run partnership off just 74 balls, helping Gujarat Titans post a mammoth total of 229/4 on a batting-friendly surface.

With this stand, the GT opening pair became the first duo in IPL history to register seven century partnerships together, surpassing the previous record jointly held by David Warner-Shikhar Dhawan and Travis Head-Abhishek Sharma, who both had six 100-plus opening stands.

The pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis also feature on the elite list with five century stands, while Chris Gayle and Kohli combined for four.

Gill looked in sublime touch right from the beginning and smashed 64 runs off just 37 balls. The GT skipper brought up his half-century in only 23 deliveries and punished CSK bowlers throughout the powerplay.

Sai Sudharsan, meanwhile, continued his dream run with another classy knock of 84 off 53 balls. The left-handed batter registered his fifth consecutive IPL half-century, becoming only the second Indian batter after Virender Sehwag to achieve the feat.

Among overseas players, only Jos Buttler and David Warner have previously recorded five successive IPL fifties.

After Shubman Gill’s dismissal, Buttler added further misery for CSK with a quickfire unbeaten 57 off 27 balls as Gujarat comfortably crossed the 220-run mark.

CSK knocked out of IPL 2026 after crushing defeat

The defeat officially ended Chennai Super Kings’ IPL 2026 playoff hopes as the franchise suffered one of their worst seasons in recent years.

Chasing a daunting target of 230, CSK’s innings collapsed almost immediately after Mohammed Siraj struck on the very first ball of the innings by dismissing Sanju Samson.

Siraj then removed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Urvil Patel early to completely derail the chase.
