On Sunday, April 6, the Gujarat Titans crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Gujarat defeated the hosts by 7 wickets after dominating with the bat and the ball. Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India, praised GT head coach Ashish Nehra after the match. Ganguly commended Nehra's excellent game sense during the match against Hyderabad in a post that has since gone viral. Gujarat has been to the IPL final twice in the last three years, and Ganguly praised their approach.

"Like the way Gujarat has gone about their job in the IPL since the first season. There is a lot of cricketing brain in their team setup and approach. Ashish Nehra has really shown his qualities as head coach, with tremendous game sense," Sourav Ganguly wrote on X.

One of the young players on Sourav Ganguly's Indian squad was Ashish Nehra. As a young speedster at the time, Nehra was renowned for his ability to swing the ball in the air and take many wickets. Nehra has consistently praised his former captain. In fact, Nehra claimed in a 2021 interview that the former India captain taught him a lot about leadership.

“The most important thing I would say I learnt from Sourav Dada was how to keep cool irrespective of the situation. I was one of those guys who used to get really upset with him at times and would show it too. He will not say anything on the ground that time but later in the evening he will call me and say ‘arre Ashu, what are you doing?’ Aaja mere kamre mein,” Nehra had said in a CRED interview back in 2021.

“Sourav Ganguly truly believed that what happens on the cricket ground should stay in the cricket ground. He really knew how to run a team and was clear about what he needed from each player and in that bargain, if some player would be upset or angry with him, no problem. He would not take it to his heart,” Nehra had further added.

The Gujarat Titans have had a strong start to the season under Ashish Nehra's coaching. With a respectable NRR of +1.031, they are currently in second place in the league table after winning three of their first four games. Delhi Capitals, who have won three of their first three games, are at the top of the standings.
