The SRH vs DC's IPL 2025 clash has been abandoned due to rain

This means SRH are officially eliminated from IPL 2025

The IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Capitals (DC) has been called off due to a wet outfield resulting from persistent rain at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium on May 5. This unfortunate outcome means that both teams will share a point each from the encounter. Consequently, with this no-result, Sunrisers Hyderabad have been officially eliminated from the playoff race of IPL 2025.

SRH vs DC IPL 2025 match washed out

The IPL 2025 match between SRH and DC held initial promise, particularly for the home team. After being put in to bat, the Capitals had struggled to build momentum and ultimately posted a modest total of just 133 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs, giving SRH an advantageous position. However, as the evening session progressed, persistent and heavy rainfall began, rendering any further play impossible despite the diligent efforts of the ground staff and the deployment of the Super Soppers. Following numerous inspections and a significant delay, the umpires were eventually forced to call off the match around 11:10 PM IST, much to the disappointment of the cricket enthusiasts gathered in Hyderabad.

Electing to bat first, the Delhi Capitals faced an early and significant setback courtesy of a fiery opening spell from Pat Cummins, who once again led the Sunrisers Hyderabad attack with distinction. The Australian pacer made an immediate impact, striking on the very first ball of the match to dismiss Karun Nair for a golden duck. Cummins continued his destructive form, claiming the wickets of Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel in quick succession, ultimately delivering an outstanding four-over spell that yielded three wickets for just 19 runs.

Consequently, DC found themselves in deep trouble, reeling at 29 runs for the loss of five wickets within the initial seven overs, with both Axar Patel and KL Rahul also falling cheaply. A brief recovery effort was mounted by Tristan Stubbs, who top-scored for the Capitals with a fluent 41 runs off 36 balls. Contributions from Ashutosh Sharma (26 off 17) and Vipraj Nigam (18 off 17) helped DC limp to a total of 133 runs. Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel provided excellent support with the ball for SRH, maintaining consistent pressure through the crucial middle overs.

Just as the Sunrisers Hyderabad were gearing up for what appeared to be a relatively straightforward run chase, ominous dark clouds began to gather over the stadium. By 9:24 PM IST, a light drizzle commenced and quickly intensified into a steady shower. Despite hopes for a shortened five-over contest, the outfield became increasingly waterlogged and unplayable, with visible puddles forming near the boundary ropes and on the covers. The ground staff worked tirelessly until well past 11 PM in their attempts to prepare the ground. However, with the cut-off time for a five-over game rapidly approaching, the umpires were left with no alternative but to officially call off the match, resulting in both teams sharing a point.
