Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) speedster Josh Hazlewood who played a crucial role behind the team's maiden win at home in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, revealed that it was his Big Bash League franchise, the Sydney Sixers, and former IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) gave him the opportunity to understand T20s.
Hazlewood, who was part of CSK in 2021, has been picked by RCB for INR 12.5 Crore at the mega auction for IPL 2025. He picked up a four-wicket haul during the team's last outing against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). Hazlewood also bowled a crucial 19th over where he picked up two wickets, conceding one run, and that changed the momentum of the game. Following his clinical performance against RR, Hazlewood was awarded Player of the Match.
"First of all was sticking to your strengths. Knew the hard length was tough to hit on this wicket, mixing it up with the odd yorker, the slower balls and the order in which to bowl them was the way to go" said Hazlewood in post match conference.
"Opportunity to play the format, did not have the opportunity with Test cricket and then ODI cricket. First it is Sydney Sixers, CSK and now RCB, these are the three teams majorly and a bit for Australia as well. Taking information from different pieces and putting it all together. One of the big keys for us is to get the information to the group as well" Hazlewood added.
RCB defeated RR by 11 runs to register their maiden win of the IPL 2025. The franchise is currently third in the points table with six wins in nine outings. Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are currently on number one and two, respectively. RCB will now face DC on April 27 at Virat Kohli's home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
