Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crushed hard-hitting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in the seventh match of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium. Despite SRH getting off to a solid start after electing to bat first, the momentum shifted thanks to an impressive four-wicket haul by Shardul Thakur. His crucial breakthroughs hampered SRH's scoring rate, ultimately restricting them to 190 runs for the loss of 9 wickets.
The second innings then witnessed a destructive batting display from Nicholas Pooran. The powerful hitter wreaked havoc on SRH bowlers, smashing a breathtaking 70 runs off a mere 26 balls which was decorated with six maximums and as many fours. Pooran's explosive knock helped LSG chase down the target in just 16.1 overs.
Meanwhile, SRH captain Pat Cummins while ruing his team's defeat indirectly blamed it all on the Hyderabad wicket. Cummins said it was a different wicket the other day when SRH posted the second-highest total in IPL history in the clash against Rajasthan Royals few days before. He termed that wicket the best in the world. SRH rode on Ishan Kishan's centurion knock to post a colossal 286-run target against RR. Cummins further said that the wicket for the match against LSG was the second best wicket.
"It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly. They batted really well though. Still a very good wicket, that was the best wicket in the world, this was the second-best wicket. It gripped a little bit, but it was a nice wicket. Every time it's a fresh game, they bowled really well, it was very well planned. It was a pretty good effort to get to 190. You always need one person to bat throughout the innings, like Ishan (Kishan) did the other day, but they bowled really well, never let us off the hook. We got 8 batters, it's about going out there and making an impact. You see things you could have done better, that could have been the difference. It's a long competition, we will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on," Cummins said in the post-match presentation.
LSG, who recovered from a heartbreaking loss against Delhi Capitals with a dominating win over SRH, will now take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their next IPL clash on April 1. Meanwhile SRH will lock horns with Delhi Capitals (DC) on March 30.
