DC suffered a seven-wicket defeat against GT

Delhi Capitals (DC) succumbed to Jos Buttler's masterful 97-run knock and suffered a seven-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on April 19. Buttler's composed and aggressive knock spanned 54 deliveries and included 11 boundaries and 4 towering sixes.

Tasked with chasing a formidable target of 204 runs for what would be their fifth win of the season, Buttler played an innings that will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the finest in his IPL career. He found valuable support in Sherfane Rutherford, who contributed a crucial 43 runs during the significant run chase. Earlier in the innings, Sai Sudharsan played a brisk knock of 36 runs off just 21 balls at the Narendra Modi Stadium, setting a solid foundation for the chase.

Prior to Gujarat Titans' successful run chase, Delhi Capitals' batterrs put up a competitive total of 203 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Several batsmen made valuable contributions, including Axar Patel with a well-fought 39, Ashutosh Sharma with a quickfire 37, Tristan Stubbs scoring 31, and Karun Nair also contributing 31 runs to the team's total. Among the Gujarat Titans' bowlers, Prasidh Krishna was the standout performer, claiming four crucial wickets.

Axar Patel disappointed after DC's 7-wicket loss to GT

Meanwhile, DC captain Axar Patel rued his team's defeat against GT and admitted they were 10-15 runs short. He also said that things could have been different had DC created more chances.

"We were 10-15 runs short. When we tried to accelerate, we kept losing wickets. We couldn't finish the way we wanted. We did bowl decently. Had we managed to create few more chances, things could have been closer. It was a matter of couple of hits. We won't think much about this loss," Axar said in the post-match presentation.

GT's win over DC propelled them to the summit of the IPL 2025 points table. While both GT and DC now possess 10 points, Gujarat currently hold the coveted top position due to their superior net run rate.

Completing the top four standings are Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, occupying the third and fourth positions respectively. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings find themselves at the opposite end of the spectrum, languishing at the bottom of the table in ninth and tenth place respectively.

DC will next play Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 22 at the Ekana Cricket stadium while GT will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 21 at the Eden Gardens.
