23-year-old Mayank Yadav got his first chance in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) but did not live up to the expectations. Mayank crossed the 150mph mark but went for 56 runs in his quota of four overs, leaking 20 runs in the final over. Following an expensive spell on IPL comeback, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer faced criticism on social media. Seeing the comments, former West Indies pacer-turned-commentator Ian Bishop expressed his concern. He believes that Mayank clocking 150kmph is a miracle in itself again.
“To see negative comments about Mayank Yadav today is horrifying. The kid nearly lost his career & livelihood at 21yrs. Just to see him play again is huge boost. The fact that he clocked 150kph again is a miracle. At 23yrs just pray for him that he stays fit. The control will come,” Bishop wrote on his X account.

Bishop lauded LSG’s pace quartet which doesn’t have a single overseas pacer. He is not concerned about Mayank’s expensive bowling figures but happy that he has regained pace after spending a long time on sidelines due to injury.
“Doesn’t matter about his bowling figures. What matters is that Mayank Yadav is on the park tonight. He has regularly gotten up to 150kph in this game already. Mohsin Khan fit, Prince Yadav firing. LSG are fortunate to have them being led by Shami,” he added.
Mayank bowls after powerplay overs
Against Rajasthan Royals (RR), Mayank replaced Avesh Khan in the lineup. He was introduced after the powerplay overs by Rishabh Pant. In his first over, he conceded 10 runs including a six off the final delivery by Riyan Parag. In the 10th over he returned as Parag was dismissed. Shimron Hetmyer hit him for a six and two fours. In the 15th over, he conceded 12 runs. The single boundary off the over came from Donovan Ferreira's bat. In the final over, a well-set Ravindra Jadeja hit him for two fours and a six. He ended up conceding 24 runs as Jadeja's 29-ball 43 took Royals' score to 159/6.
LSG go up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next match at home. It is yet to be seen whether Mayank gets a second chance.
