Rajasthan Royals' (RR) teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become a household name, because of his monstrous knocks in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. So far across two seasons, the 15-year old has scored 835 runs in just 21 games at an average of 39.76 with an overall career strike rate of 223.86.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi takes up new challenge
After each knock, Sooryavanshi creates a new record under his name. However, the RR opener has expressed his wish to overtake "Universe Boss" Chris Gayle's record of highest individual score in T20s. In IPL 2013, Chris Gayle smashed an unbeaten knock of 175 runs against Pune Warriors India.
After more than a decade, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has vowed to break Gayle's record by scoring 200 in T20 cricket. In a latest episode of Kevin Pietersen's The Switch, the 15-year-old expressed the desire to become first batter to score 200 in T20s.
“I want to score 200 in T20," said Sooryavanshi.
Pietersen tried to remind him about Gayle's humongous 175. However, Vaibhav maintained his stance of breaking the world record by scoring a 200 by showing full faith in himself.
"If I play 20 overs in any game, I definitely will break that record,"

There is no stopping for the young left-handed opener in the ongoing IPL 2026 season. In 14 matches, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has smashed record breaking 583 runs at an average of 41.64 with a staggering strike rate of 232.27. He is creating a new standard of batting in the powerplay, as he aims to fully utilize the field restrictions in the first six overs.
Notably, the 15-year-old opener has managed to become the first and only Indian batter to hit 50 sixes in a single edition of the tournament. After the league stage, his tally stands at 53 sixes. Additionally, he became the teenager with the most runs in a single T20 competition in the history of cricket.
