Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s resurgence in IPL 2026 has reignited discussions around a potential return to the Indian national side. The seasoned pacer has been in exceptional form, currently leading the wicket charts and proving instrumental for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Known for his precision and ability to swing the ball both ways, Bhuvneshwar has consistently troubled batters this season. His control in varying conditions and effectiveness in crucial phases of the game have made him one of the standout performers of the tournament.
The veteran pacer delivered a standout spell against the Delhi Capitals in Delhi, picking up 3 wickets for just 5 runs in three overs, dismantling the opposition’s batting lineup.
Mohammed Kaif voices strong support for Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif recalled the time when Bhuvneshwar Kumar was just a 17-year-old prodigy. Kaif, who was captaining Uttar Pradesh at the time, was highly impressed by Kumar’s swing and control.
Despite initial reluctance from the selectors, Kaif pushed for his inclusion in the squad. His faith paid off, as Kumar went on to make a strong impact—famously dismissing Sachin Tendulkar for a duck in the 2009 Ranji Trophy final.
"There are moments when one gets emotional. Watching Bhuvi bowl so beautifully today brought back memories of the days when he was just 17. I was the UP captain, and was impressed by his control and swing. But selectors said he was too young. I insisted. Bhuvi made his Ranji debut, got Sachin Paaji for duck in the final," Kaif said.
Kaif has publicly backed Bhuvneshwar for a return to the Indian setup. Impressed by the pacer’s sustained excellence, Kaif highlighted both his skill and longevity in a heartfelt message.
He’s 36 now, still troubles the best of batsmen with his swing. India comeback? Why not, Bhuvi still has it in him," he added.
Experience and form keep hopes alive
At 36, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s performances challenge the notion that age limits impact in modern cricket. His ability to deliver under pressure and maintain consistency across matches underscores his enduring value.
With the national team always on the lookout for experienced bowlers who can execute plans with precision, Bhuvneshwar’s current form has strengthened the argument for his comeback.
