Virat Kohli talked at length about the fierce rivalry that exists between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL, particularly underscoring the unique experience of playing this high-octane fixture at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium. The hype around the next encounter between these two formidable teams in the IPL 2025 season is palpable.
Having been an integral part of this intense rivalry since the inaugural season of the IPL, Kohli offered insights into what makes the RCB versus CSK clash at the Chinnaswamy such a special occasion. Speaking on the show ‘18 Calling 18’ on JioHotstar, the superstar batter pointed out the presence of CSK supporters who travel to Bengaluru for the match, often creating a vibrant atmosphere by occupying a substantial section of the stadium.
Reflecting on the electrifying atmosphere of the RCB versus CSK encounters at their home ground, Virat Kohli stated that the environment within the Chinnaswamy Stadium during these particular matches stands out as the most exhilarating he has ever experienced as a player.
“I would say one team that, historically, I’ve felt we’ve had the most intense games with is Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru. Because in Chennai, of course, there are Chennai fans—it’s just yellow and CSK fans everywhere. But to play against CSK in Bengaluru is something else, because a lot of Chennai fans come to Bengaluru. CSK fans travel in huge numbers, so they buy tickets very early and take over a section of the stadium," Kohli said.
"So, there’s an intense atmosphere inside the stadium in Bengaluru when playing against CSK. And then, obviously, the game also gets very intense and competitive. That environment is the most exciting I’ve been a part of,” Kohli added.
Currently positioned third on the points table with 14 points, RCB will be aiming to secure a win to bolster their chances of climbing back to the top and solidify their playoff hopes. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have already been eliminated from the playoff race this season. Having endured a disappointing campaign, they will be playing this match primarily for pride and an opportunity to end their season on a positive note by upsetting their rivals. Interestingly, in their earlier encounter this season, it was RCB who thrashed MS Dhoni-led CSK by 50 runs at the Chepauk stadium and broke their previous jinx of not winning against the Men in Yellow in Chennai.
