David Miller came so close to pulling off a match-winning knock, but fell just short in a thrilling IPL 2026 clash on Wednesday against Gujarat Titans. While chasing the target of 210/4, Delhi Capitals needed just two runs off the final two deliveries. However, a dramatic run-out on the last ball secured a narrow one-run win for Gujarat at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

With this defeat, Delhi Capitals saw their unbeaten streak come to an end, having earlier recorded superb wins against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in their first two league games.

Today, Delhi Capitals posted a video on their official X (FKA Twitter) handle, showing David Miller sitting alone, clearly being affected with the narrow defeat, before head coach Hemang Badani came to console the South-African batter.

David Miller scored an unbeaten 41 runs off just 20 balls and could have saved the game for Delhi, if he would have taken the single at second-last delivery of the final over. Despite the close defeat, Miller has found  some support from Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, who praised the batter's self-confidence and composure under pressure.

"Yes, he was backing himself to hit the winning runs, but having seen the way Kuldeep Yadav nudged that ball for a single off the first ball maybe he should have given Kuldeep the strike," said Sunil Gavaskar on Star Sports.

Gavaskar further added that the way David Miller had smashed boundaries in the previous over was the reason the left-handed batter backed himself to score the winning runs.

"He should have given the strike. This is all being wise after the event, but the fact remains that the way he had been hitting the previous over and that over as well, he believed that he could do it, simple as that. So you can’t fault him for that. He had the confidence that he could do it, but it didn’t come off because the ball that Prasid Krishna bowled was an absolutely superb delivery," Sunil Gavaskar added.

Next challenge for Delhi Capitals

Other than Millers' fantastic unbeaten 41 off 20 at the end of the innings, star opener KL Rahul gave an outstanding start to DC with his amazing 92 runs off 52 balls. Eventually, the hosts finished at 209/8 while chasing 211. Delhi Capitals will lock horns with  Chennai Super Kings in their IPL clash on Saturday.
