Axar Patel comforts David Miller after DC's defeat.

Axar Patel was seen comforting a heartbroken David Miller after the Delhi Capitals lost by just one run to the Gujarat Titans in a tense Indian Premier League 2026 clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

Miller, who stayed not out on 41 from just 19 balls, almost pulled off the chase but looked devastated when it slipped away at the very end. After the final ball, he looked emotional and even threw his bat in frustration.

Why was Miller heartbroken after DC's defeat?

Chasing 211, DC finished at 209/8, and the match really turned in the final over bowled by Prasidh Krishna. With two runs needed from two balls, Miller chose not to take a single, backing himself to finish the game instead of letting Kuldeep Yadav face the pressure moment.

On the next ball, Prasidh delivered a slower one, which Miller failed to hit. Behind the stumps, Jos Buttler, who had already removed one glove, quickly gathered the ball and underarmed a throw to run Kuldeep out at the striker’s end. A single at that point would have tied the game and pushed it into a Super Over.

GT's performance

In the end, Gujarat Titans held their nerve and secured their first win of the season, most dramatically, by just one run off the last ball.

Earlier in the match, GT had put up 210/4 after being asked to bat first. Shubman Gill led from the front with a well-made 70 off 45 balls. Washington Sundar added 55 from 32 balls, while Buttler chipped in with 52 off 27. For DC, Lungi Ngidi was the most effective bowler, finishing with figures of 1/24.

DC's chase

DC got off to a strong start in their chase. Pathum Nissanka scored a quick 41 off 24 balls, and along with KL Rahul, put on 63 runs in the powerplay. Nissanka was later caught by Rahul Tewatia off Prasidh, ending what had been a solid opening stand.

Rahul then carried the innings with a classy 92 off 52 balls, keeping DC in the hunt even as wickets kept falling. However, the middle overs slowed things down. Nitish Rana couldn’t get going at No. 3, and Sameer Rizvi was out for a golden duck as Rashid Khan struck twice in two balls.

Miller’s late hitting brought DC right back into the game, but in the end, they fell short by the smallest possible margin.
