PBKS downed LSG by 37 runs in their IPL 2025 clash

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) went down to a hefty 37-run defeat against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their IPL 2025 clash at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on May 4.

Batting first, Punjab Kings posted a formidable total of 236 runs for the loss of five wickets. Their innings was anchored by a brilliant knock of 91 runs from Prabhsimran Singh, while Shreyas Iyer provided valuable support with a well-played innings of 45 runs. In the second innings, Punjab Kings' bowling attack proved effective in restricting Lucknow Super Giants to 199 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Arshdeep Singh was the standout bowler, completing a three-wicket haul, while Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in with two crucial scalps.

Playoff dream is still alive: Rishabh Pant

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant, who could only score 18 runs off 17 balls, is still hopeful of LSG's playoff chances despite their sixth defeat in the ongoing season which has made their playoff chances bleak. Pant said that LSG's playoffs dream is still alive. He stated that if LSG win their next three matches, they can still turn it around. If LSG happen to notch three wins in their next three encounters, where they will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), they will end up accumulating 16 points in the standings. But a lot will depend on other team's performance and the Net Run Rate game.

"Definitely too many runs. When you gonna drop crucial catches at the wrong time, it is going to hurt you badly. We thought it was going to do more. We didn't pick the length right at the start. That's part and parcel of the game. The dream is still alive. If we gonna win the next three matches, we definitely can turn it around. It makes sense when your top order is batting really well. Every match you can't hope they will come off nicely. It's part of the game. We need to take the game deep. Every time they can't do the heavy job for us. Like you said in the first, we had too many to chase. That hurt us badly," Pant said at the post-match presentation.
