India star-rounder Shardul Thakur revealed that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Zaheer Khan contacted him while he was playing in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Shardul said that Zaheer Khan told him that the franchise will call him as a potential replacement for the Indian Premier League 2025.

"Honestly, no but I had made my plans. I also planned to play county cricket if I was not picked in the IPL. Zaheer Khan had called me when I was playing in the Ranji Trophy and he told me that you may be called in as a potential replacement so don't switch yourself off. If you are called in as a replacement, you are likely to start. Ups and downs are a part of life. I have always backed my skills" said Shardul in post-match presentation.

Shardul Thakur was awarded Player of the Match for his iconic performance in SRH vs LSH match 7 of the IPL 2025. He picked up a four-wicket haul that helped the Lucknow-based franchise to register a five-wicket win in their second outing of the tournament. Shardul has played two matches in IPL 2025 and picked up six wickets. Lucknow Super Giants will now face Punjab Kings for their third clash of the tournament, which will take place on April 1 at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
