Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were asked to bat first in their tournament opener against Delhi Capitals in the 19th edition of the cash-rich league. When LSG announced their playing XI, one name immediately grabbed attention: Mukul Choudhary. But who is Mukul Choudhary, the uncapped player picked by Rishabh Pant, and the one LSG had to battle Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians to secure during the auction?

How much did Mukul Choudhary earn?

During the 2026 IPL auction, both Rajasthan and Mumbai showed strong interest in Mukul Choudhary. However, Lucknow Super Giants won the bidding war and signed him for ₹2.60 crore.

What is Mukul Choudhary’s role?

Mukul is a wicketkeeper-batter who usually plays the role of a finisher in T20 cricket. Representing Rajasthan in domestic cricket, he caught attention last season in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy with an unbeaten 54 off just 28 balls against Mumbai.

Mukul has played seven T20 matches where he scored 210 runs at an impressive average of 42.00. In the Indian Premier League 2026, the wicketkeeper batter will look to make a huge impact for the Lucknow-based franchise.

Mukul's first-class career

Hailing from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, Mukul has played four First-Class matches, scoring 103 runs for his state. In List A cricket, he has featured in five games and scored 71 runs.

Coming back to the LSG vs DC clash, Axar Patel won the toss and opted to bowl at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. 

DC have fielded overs overseas players in David Miller, Pathum Nissanka, Tristan Stubbs and Lungi Ngidi. LSG went with four overseas players in Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh, Nicholas Pooran and Anrich Nortje.
